Analog Devices Communications Revenue Surges 79% as AI Supercycle Lifts Semiconductor Earnings

Analog Devices reported communications revenue up 79% year over year in Q2 2026, driven by AI infrastructure demand. The company guided Q3 2026 revenue at $3.9 billion. Across the sector, Nvidia beat FY2027 Q1 expectations and Micron is expanding U.S. domestic capacity by more than $2 billion.

Analog Devices posted communications revenue up 79% year over year in Q2 2026, representing 15% of total revenue.1 Sequential growth hit 22%, confirming sustained acceleration rather than a one-quarter spike.1

ADI guided Q3 2026 revenue at $3.9 billion, plus or minus $100 million.1 That puts the company on track for a strong second half if AI infrastructure spending holds.

Automotive remained ADI's largest end market at 24% of total revenue, gaining 8% sequentially but only 2% year over year — growing, but trailing the AI-driven communications rebound by a wide margin.1 Inventory days reached 168, up $81 million sequentially, signaling normalization pressure in slower-moving end markets.1

ADI's acquisition of Empower Semiconductor is strategic but not expected to contribute materially to revenue in the near term.1

The broader sector picture reinforces the AI-driven demand narrative. Nvidia beat expectations in its FY2027 Q1 results, confirming data center spending has not decelerated. Micron is expanding its Manassas, Virginia facility by more than $2 billion, adding domestic 1α DRAM capacity as U.S. chipmakers push production onshore.

Supply chain risk is rising in parallel. A 2027 ban on Chinese rare earth materials in U.S. defense systems will increase input costs across the semiconductor industry.2 Domestic sourcing development is accelerating as a direct response.2

Advanced packaging marks the next performance layer. Transitions from Gen 4 to Gen 5 and VPD architectures, ceramic core substrates, and Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform are in active development — the physical infrastructure for the next AI compute cycle.

For equity investors, the sector read is bifurcated. AI-exposed verticals — data center, communications — show strong double-digit growth. Industrial and consumer segments face inventory normalization near term. ADI's 168-day inventory figure and the 2027 rare earth supply risk are the two primary caution flags against an otherwise bullish earnings backdrop.
